Consulting Chef Instructor:
K-12 School Nutrition
Chef Cyndie Story K-12 Culinary Team (CCK-12) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consulting Chef and Instructor to join our team on a part-time contracted basis. As a Chef Instructor, you will be responsible for providing CCK-12 branded training to School Nutrition Program Operators around the country to enhance the efficiency of operations, quality, variety, and nutrition of school meals. Chef Instructors will provide directives to Chef Assistants and work collaboratively to deliver excellent training and professional customer service to every participant. Specific duties include providing hands-on culinary skills demonstrations and education for school nutrition professionals in a commercial kitchen environment and delivering engaging presentations in a classroom setting. Examples of culinary skills demonstrations include knife skills and fundamental cooking techniques, while classroom topics may include calculating meals per labor hour or AP/EP. Successful candidates will understand culinary science, be able to demonstrate robust culinary skills, and share this knowledge as it relates to school nutrition professionals. CCK-12 works hard to support one another, and successful candidates will share this objective.
Note this position requires 100% domestic travel for all assignments.
Chef Cyndie and the K-12 Culinary Team have been passionately engaged in school nutrition for over 35 years, and have vast experience as school nutrition directors, menu planners, state agency staff, registered dietitians, industry chefs, and recipe standardizers. We believe every school nutrition program should have skilled and confident staff. School nutrition professionals are an essential part of every school district and should be respected for their service to the students and community. - Minimum 4 years of experience as a chef in a K-12 school setting. Culinary school or similar role will be considered
- Thrive as part of a team and exhibit strong leadership ability
- Outstanding organizational skills and capability to prioritize tasks
- Proficiency in time and classroom management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Exhibits professionalism in conduct, language, and appearance at all times
- Eagerness to commit to ongoing learning, particularly as it pertains to school nutrition
- Engaging training style with expertise in educating adult learners
- Familiarity with a commercial kitchen, equipment, and large format recipes
- Acumen in working with standardized recipes
- Ability to pass a background check for working in school environments
- Basic competency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Drive
- Culinary degree (A.O.S. or Bachelor) from an accredited institution
- ServSafe® Manager Certification or equivalent certification in food safety
This position requires the ability to travel domestically for 100% of the work assigned. Travel frequently includes multiple overnight stays (hotel accommodations are paid/fully reimbursed by the company), and assignments are often in one-week increments. The ability to travel by air, a reasonable proximity to a major airport, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive are required. The ability to lift approximately 35 pounds and to stand for extended time periods are required for this position. A background check is required and is not a reimbursable expense.
Successful candidates must be able to attend the in-person staff orientation in the Atlanta area on May 17-19.

Chef Cyndie Story K-12 Culinary Team (CCK-12) is seeking a highly skilled, professional, and experienced Consulting Chef Assistant to join our team on a part-time contracted basis. As a Chef Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting CCK-12 team Chef Trainers/Lead Instructors and providing limited hands-on culinary skills training for School Nutrition Program Operators around the country to enhance the efficiency of operations, quality, variety, and nutrition of school meals. The successful candidate will take directives from Chef Trainers and work collaboratively to deliver excellent training and professional customer service to every participant. Specific support duties entail preparing ingredients for culinary classes and demonstrations, procuring grocery items for training, setting up participant workstations, providing assistance to the lead Chef and participants during training, organizing equipment, and maintaining a clean and orderly teaching kitchen. Our team works hard to support one another; successful Chef Assistants may have the opportunity to advance to Chef Trainers/Lead Instructors.
